Maria Shriver to Keynote Annual Think Pink Fundraiser
Annual event marks 20 years of advancing women’s wellness at Providence Saint John’s Health Center. SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 9, 2026 – Maria Shriver, an award-winning journalist, author and leading advocate for women’s health, will be the keynote speaker at the 20th annual Think Pink for Women’s Wellness, an educational event for Providence Saint John’s Health Center. The event will take place Wednesday, Apr. 29, at the Bel-Air Bay Club in Pacific Palisades. “Maria Shriver is a long-time supporter of Saint John’s as well as an activist for women’s health, and we are delighted she will be participating in Think Pink in such a prominent role,” said Janis Gallo, president of the health center’s Irene Dunne Guild, which produces the event. “We’re also pleased to be returning to Pacific Palisades and the Bel-Air Bay Club, Think Pink’s home of many years.” In the aftermath of last year’s Palisades fire, Think Pink was moved to another location in Santa Monica. Shriver’s personal and philanthropic connection to Saint John’s spans decades. The hospital honored her role as a patron – and her devotion to children and family – by naming its specialized newborn care unit the Maria Shriver Nursery in 2004. Her four children were also born at Saint John’s. She is a former first lady of California, founder of the nonprofit Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement and co-founder of the Cleveland Clinic Women’s Comprehensive Health and Research Center. Maria Shriver will join Think Pink for a featured conversation about the state of women’s health and the newly reimagined Maria Shriver Labor, Delivery and Family Wellness Center at Providence Saint John’s Health Center. Think Pink for Women’s Wellness is the primary educational and fundraising event of the Irene Dunne Guild, which is marking its 39th year as a major support group of Saint John’s. The Irene Dunne Guild was established in the name of actress Irene Dunne to honor her legacy of philanthropy at Saint John’s. The guild has more than 100 active members. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and feature morning speaker sessions on unlocking the mysteries of menopause, the surprising health benefits of beautiful skin, why self-care can be heart care, and the importance of understanding your gut microbiome. A luncheon will follow in the Upper Bel-Air Bay Club’s dining room overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Boutique shopping will be available throughout the day, with net proceeds benefiting a wide array of programs and services at Saint John’s including women’s health initiatives, nursing scholarships, funding for caregivers and family support services, and the purchase of medical equipment. Tickets for Think Pink are $195 per person and are expected to sell out. On February 17, members of the Irene Dunne Guild gathered at Providence Saint John's Health Center for a thoughtfully organized morning of learning and fellowship, coordinated by Social Events Committee Chair Carol Bullock.
The program included two guided experiences: an inspiring Art Tour led by Jeanne, highlighting the hospital’s healing art collection, and an informative Hospital Tour with Dr. John Robertson, offering insight into Saint John’s exceptional patient care and medical programs. Members divided into two groups, allowing everyone the opportunity to participate in both tours. Following the tours, the group enjoyed lunch together in Flaherty Commons, where conversation and connection continued in a warm and welcoming setting. Thank you to Jeanne and Dr. Robertson for their engaging tours, and to Carol Bullock for organizing this meaningful and enjoyable Guild gathering. The Irene Dunne Guild kicked off the year with a well-attended General Meeting on January 22, 2026, at the Saint John’s Health Center Foundation offices in Santa Monica. Nearly 40 members and guests gathered for lunch and the first meeting under the new Board led by President Janis Gallo.
Following committee and officer reports, Sheryl A. Bourgeois, PhD, President & CEO of the Foundation, shared updates on Saint John’s Health Center. One of the most meaningful moments of the meeting followed with the Allocations Presentations, led by Jill Robertson, Janis Gallo, and Panthea Shafipour. Morgan Culbertson presented a video highlighting IDG’s recent allocations, illustrating the tangible impact of the Guild’s fundraising and volunteer efforts. Presentations included: Stephanie Baker (Magnet / Nursing Scholarship), Molly Wainstock (InBody Analyzer), Lisa Margolis and Kim Kalmanson (CFDC Equipment), and Jodene Stelley (NICU Kangaroo Chair). Each presentation offered a powerful reminder of how IDG’s work directly supports caregivers, scholarships, and essential hospital equipment across multiple departments at Saint John’s. A strong and inspiring start to the year ahead. On November 13th, the Irene Dunne Guild held its Annual Luncheon and Installation of Officers 2026 at the Del Rey Yacht Club. The Guild installed its 2026 officers: Janis Gallo, President; Suzanne Caldwell, Vice President; Nancy Wu, Treasurer; Karrie Harding, Corresponding Secretary; and Stephanie Malbasa, Recording Secretary. Guests heard remarks from Sheryl Bourgeois, President and CEO of the Saint John’s Health Center Foundation, and Michael Ricks, Chief Executive of Providence Saint John’s Health Center, both expressing heartfelt gratitude for the Guild’s continued support. The Guild also warmly welcomed its newest IDG members, Gillian Clow, Yale Kino, Valerie Nelson, Elise Reagan, Ilene Roper, and Sunday Taylor, as well as its new Women Physicians of the IDG: Dr. Marisa Gigg, Dr. Tyffany Caldwell, and Dr. Joanne Low. Members and their partners enjoyed a warm and lively evening filled with good food, music, conversation, laughter, and the joy of being together. The festive atmosphere set the perfect backdrop for this cherished Irene Dunne Guild tradition.
A heartfelt thank you to Lucy Fisher, IDG Vice President, for bringing this wonderful gathering to life! Thank you to the Irene Dunne Guild volunteers for another incredible Treats for Caregivers!
Treats for Caregivers was held on Wednesday, Sept 17 from 1-4PM at Mullin Plaza. Treats for Caregivers is one of the Guild's signature annual events and this year we handed out over 800 ice creams to Saint John’s caregivers and medical staff across both the day and night shift. Attendees were also able to win gift cards donated from local businesses through trivia, hula hooping and cornhole. A special thank you to local businesses who supported with generous donations including Shake Shack, Randy's Donuts, El Cholo, Mendocino Farms, Lemon Nails & Spa, Uppers Cafe, Santa Monica Seafood & Cookie Good. On August 12, 2025, the Guild’s Social Events Committee hosted a summer outing to the UCLA Mathias Botanical Garden, thoughtfully organized by Carol Bullock. The group enjoyed an hour-long guided tour along the garden’s easy, scenic pathways, exploring a remarkable variety of plants from around the world. The collections—arranged by geography, climate, and theme—ranged from California natives and desert landscapes to tropical palms and the serene Ancient Forest. After the tour, members and guests gathered for a relaxed lunch at Plateia Restaurant in Westwood, where conversation and camaraderie continued over Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Participants included Carol Bullock, Suzanne Caldwell, Janis Gallo, Kim Kowsky (Foundation), Stephanie Malbasa, Elizabeth Mullan, Christine Ofiesh, Ilene Roper (prospective member), and Kathy Yawitz. It was a lovely day of discovery, connection, and summer beauty. IDG General Meeting – Brain Health Presentation by Dr. Amir Vokshoor.
The IDG General Meeting held on Wednesday, June 5, offered members a chance to connect and hear from Dr. Amir Vokshoor, Chief of Spine Surgery at Providence St. John’s Health Center and a specialist in brain and spine health. Dr. Vokshoor is also the founder of the Institute of NeuroInnovation and the NeuroVella Brain Spa.
